Name
BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMMONWEALTH POLICY FOR A FIRST NATIONS CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE
Date & Time
Thursday, August 20, 2026, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Description

Australia’s energy system was not designed with First Nations people, rights or interests in mind. But over the past few years, First Nations communities and organisations have shifted what is possible — from the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy, to changes in the Capacity Investment Scheme, Future Made in Australia, and growing attention on prepayment, energy access and community benefit.

The challenge now is turning these commitments into lasting change. What are the next Commonwealth reforms needed to unlock First Nations investment, reward projects that deliver genuine outcomes, ensure no community is left behind, and implement the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy?

Drawing on what has been heard across the Symposium, this session will ask what the next phase of reform needs to focus on. What has worked? What has got in the way? What policy, regulatory and investment changes are needed now to implement the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy and build an energy system that works for our communities, our Country and future generations?
