WHEN THE RULES GET IN THE WAY - How Utilities can support First Nations outcomes
Date & Time
Thursday, August 20, 2026, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Description
Utilities play a critical role in Australia's clean energy transition, but they don't always have the flexibility to deliver the outcomes communities want. Different regulations, market rules and government priorities can make it difficult to connect new projects, support community-led energy initiatives or develop innovative commercial arrangements. Even when everyone agrees on a better outcome, the system itself can become the barrier. This session brings together utilities, regulators and community leaders to explore where the rules are helping—and where they are holding communities back. Through practical examples from across Australia, we'll examine what needs to change so utilities can become stronger partners in delivering a faster, fairer and more community-led energy transition.
