Chairman Tim Nuvangyaoma was born and raised on the Hopi Reservation and is Pifwungwa (Tobacco Clan) from the Village of Misungnovi. After more than two decades living and working off reservation, he returned home to serve his community through the nonprofit sector and as a wildland firefighter with the Hopi Wildland Firefighting Program.
In 2017, Tim was elected Chairman of the Hopi Tribe and was re-elected in 2021. During his tenure, he strengthened partnerships among Tribal, federal, state, and local governments while advancing Tribal self-determination and community resilience. He also served on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Tribal Advisory Committee (CTAC), representing Tribal perspectives on national public health issues.
Today, Tim is a passionate advocate for Tribal sovereignty, climate resilience, and renewable energy development. Guided by Indigenous knowledge and a commitment to equity, he works to ensure Tribal Nations play a leading role in the clean energy transition, creating sustainable opportunities for current and future generations.
